I visited Great Basin, one of the least-visited national parks in the US, for the first time. To get there, I drove six hours on US 50, a highway nicknamed America's "Loneliest Road." Great Basin's stunning night skies, hiking trails, and ancient artifacts made the trip worth it.

- Start the day by visiting the Lehman Caves Visitor Center.
- Drive the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive, stopping at the various viewpoints along the way.
- Pick a hike.
- Head into Baker for dinner and/or visit the Great Basin Visitor Center or Baker Archeological Site.
- Stargaze.

Spring is one of the best times of year to visit Great Basin. Wildlife and birds return, wildflowers begin to bloom, snow covered landscapes melt to reveal the emerging life beneath. However, spring is not without it's struggles, especially in years with heavy snowfall.
